Brigitte Barnard is a former midwife and a writer of Tudor history and historical fiction.
She grew up in the foothills of Colorado, riding horses, and worked as a homebirth midwife before turning to writing full time. Today she spends her days researching the Renaissance English court — and the women in its birth chambers whom the chroniclers rarely named.
Her novel The Tudor Queens’ Midwife, published in January 2025, is the first of a trilogy. It follows Sarah Menendez, a midwife exiled from her homeland who attends Queen Katherine of Aragon. Her non-fiction history, Tudor Childbirth in the Royal Court: The Midwives and Mothers, was published by Pen & Sword History in September 2026.
She has talked about Tudor midwifery on The Tudor Chest Podcast, Tudors Dynasty & Beyond and Wicked Women: The Podcast. See appearances.
She is married, with four children.
